Student of the Year Scholarship
The Albany Public Schools Foundation will award $244,800 in scholarships to graduating seniors from WAHS, SAHS, and AOS this spring. Since 1991 the Foundation has awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships to graduating seniors. The recipient receives a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a post secondary institution: four year college or university, community college, junior college, or business or trade school, paid directly to the institution.
To Qualify, you must:
Be a high school senior enrolled in one of these three schools
Albany Options School
South Albany High School
West Albany High School
Must have faced or are currently facing an obstacle or barrier that can make accessing education more difficult.
For example:
- Poverty
- Violence
- Racism
- Teen Pregnancy & Parenthood
- Being in foster care
- Trafficking
- Substance abuse
Be a graduating senior girl with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Write an essay, up to 750 words, describing the obstacle and how it was overcome, or how furthering your education will help you overcome it.
Two letters of recommendation from non-family members.
e.g. teacher, counselor, coworker, clergy member, or after-school organization staff.
