Club Projects

Student Assistance Fund

SI of Albany provides assistance to under privileged children in local elementary, middle and high schools as requested by school officials. Throughout the year the Committee shops for clothing and assists the Greater Albany Public School district in a variety of ways to ensure all children in our community can attend school in new, stylish, clean clothing. Funding for this project comes from the sale of poinsettias, spring flower baskets, proceeds of the Gift from the Heart letter campaign, and community donations.

Breast Cancer and Other Diseases Affecting Women

SI of Albany provides funding for mammograms and other medical procedures for women without adequate medical insurance in our community and county. In 1999 the club completed our $25,000 pledge to the Albany Hospital Foundation to help purchase equipment for the new Women’s Imaging Center. Since that time Walk for the Cause proceeds have been disbursed to the Linn County Breast and Cervical Cancer Coalition, Albany General Hospital Foundation, the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, the Samaritan Albany General Hospital Women’s Center, the InReach Clinic and the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, Family Tree Relief Nursery, Volunteer Caregivers, and Samaritan Cancer Resource Center. SI of Albany has contributed over $800,000 to local health facilities, wellness caregivers and providers.

Scholarships

Each year a senior from an Albany high school will be selected to receive a scholarship. This Student of the Year/Community Service Scholarship will be based on the student’s service contribution to the community. Funding for this project comes from the sale of poinsettias, spring flower baskets, and community donations.

Each year a woman will be selected to receive a Live Your Dream Award. This monetary grant is designated for a woman who is the sole financial support for her dependent family, and is pursuing opportunities to further her own education or training. Funding for this project comes from the sale of poinsettias, spring flower baskets, and community donations.

Economic and Social Fund

This project was developed to serve the needs of women, children and the elderly. Sample toiletries have been distributed to shelters, the Albany Boy’s and Girl’s club and the Department of Human Services. Other projects have included purchases of wheel chair bags for the elderly, Valentine’s care packages for Lebanon and Albany infusion clinic patients; supporting ABC House, Fish, Helping Hands, Linn-Benton Community College, Family Tree Relief Nursery, Oregon Human Services Department; decorating a room at Jackson Street Youth Shelter; and working with DHS to identify the needs of children entering foster care.

Human Rights / Status of Women Project

This committee looks for ways to help women reach equal status in the home, in the workplace and in the global community. Funding for this project comes from community donations.
